April Charleston Series!
April Charleston Series!
April 6, 13, 20
NO CLASS APRIL 27!
Join us for a 3 week Charleston series in the month of April! The Charleston was one of America’s first dance crazes - sweeping nation through the 1920s and into the 30s. The dance originates with Black performers in South Carolina in the late 1800s/early 1900 and gained national popularity after being featured in a Broadway show, Runnin’ Wild, in 1923. In the late 1920s, we start to see a move called The Breakaway - an early version of the Swingout. Charleston is the parent dance of Lindy Hop and is often used in conjunction with it in partner dancing.
7:00 — Charleston 102
Charleston 102 is for folks who already have some basic partnered Charleston experience, as we’ll be getting into more intermediate moves, (including tandem!).
8:15 — Charleston 101
Charleston 101 will cover basic Charleston footwork, side by side, and hand to hand. If you’ve never tried Charleston before or want to refresh what we covered in December, this class is for you!
9:15 — Social Hour
Our free social hour is open for anyone to practice what we just learned, or just hang out and dance! Attendance at class isn’t required to attend social hour
