Classes we regularly offer:
Basic East Coast 6-count SwingThis introductory class will give you the basics you need to have a fun night of dancing. We'll start you off with the footwork, teach you frame and connection and a selection of moves. Every class is a little different - different teachers, different moves - so repeat it as often as necessary to build your skills. No experience or partner needed!
Lindy Hop Foundations (Level 1)This series will cover the basic footwork, the swingout and the Lindy circle. These classes are geared towards those who are new to Lindy hop as well as those looking to get back to the fundamentals and work on technique. We recommend repeating this series as much as you need to feel comfortable and confident, as it can take some time to get it into your muscle memory -- once you do, though, you won't believe how much fun it is! No pre-requisites, but having some 6-count knowledge is helpful. This series will be offered monthly -- one month as a 2 week series on Thursday nights, the next month as as a more in depth 4 week series on Mondays, and so forth. Check out the calendar to see where it's happening this month!
Intermediate Lindy Hop (Levels 2&3)This is a progressive series that will get you refining your swingout and improving connection. This series will be presented with a different focus each time it's offered - technique advancement, combining Lindy with other styles, playing with tempos and timing, etc. Prerequisites will be determined dependent on the specifics of the class, but, at a minimum, you must be comfortable performing a swing out from open, from closed and a Lindy circle.
Lindy Styling (Levels 2&3)This series introduces new some new moves to spice up your Lindy Hop base. You'll also work on technique and improving connection. Prerequisites: This is a more intermediate level class, so you must be comfortable performing a swing out from open, from closed and a Lindy circle.
Intermediate 6-count (Levels 2&3)This series will kick your basics up a notch with some tricks, tips, new intermediate moves and probably a dip or two to add to your vocabulary. These classes will, on occasion, feature triple step footwork. Pre-requisites: basic 6-count footwork, he/she goes, inside/outside turns, getting into/out of closed.
Blues (Levels 1&2)This is a style that, in its roots, predates swing dance and has evolved over the years to a smooth, rhythmic, earthy dance that can be performed partnered or solo. Blues is driven by the deep pulse of the music and a strong partner connection. No pre-requisites.
Charleston (Levels 1,2&3)This was a dance style that was extremely popular in the 1920s into the 30s. This class will give you the basic footwork and a selection of moves in side-by-side, face to face and tandem Charleston. It’s a great style of dance that is well suited to faster songs and blends well with both 6-count and Lindy hop. No pre-requisites.
Musicality (Levels 1&2)Learn how to make the music the third partner in your dance. You'll work on understanding the structure of songs, hearing and reacting to changes in the music, improvising and communicating with your partner. All skill levels welcome! No pre-requisites.
Shim Sham (All Levels)If you’ve ever wondered about that crazy line dance that the group breaks into almost every week, or if you want to work on your existing Shim Sham skills, this class is for you! This tap-based dance is a standard in the swing community. If there’s time, we’ll also go through variations on the basic steps. No pre-requisites.
Our classes rotate based on teacher availability, so make sure to keep up with our calendar to see what's coming up! We also offer special classes and series from time to time including: Collegiate Shag, Balboa, Steals and Jams, Floorcraft, Turkey Trot and other line dances. Let us know if there's anything you want to learn and we'll see what we can do!
