Biography & Interests: Daddy was a barnstormer. My mother was the last surviving wing-walker of the 'Wings over Mid-America' air show. She started her career at the tender age of 15, the week after my Aunt Rose plummeted into a cornfield near Munsie, Indiana.
I spent my childhood trailing after Mama, and Mama trailing after any man that smiled at her. But she saw to it that I had, not only shoes, but dance lessons.
We finally settled down when Mama married a trapeze artist in the Ringling Bros. circus and we spent our lives as most people do....60 towns in N. America every summer & winters touring S. America. My step-daddy was nice enough, until I was 14, and then he was a little too nice.
The day I turned 15 Uncle Dom dropped him into the center ring in Toledo, & Mama and I left to pursue other interests.
Mama thought it would be best to leave the country for awhile and it was that summer in Spain, where I met my first love, a bullfighter named Carlos. He was much older, probably 19, and always the perfect gentleman. I was heartbroken when Mama decided it was time to go home to the States. I was never to see Carlos again, but he wrote me twice, in Spanish and I read them as best I could.
I guess show-biz was in my blood - by the time I was 17 I was on the North American tour as a rodeo clown and trick rider.
Fate was determined to show me the way. Running late one day, I climbed into my barrel in nothing but my dainties, and that was the day that old Diablo, charged - and the barrel broke clean off me. The crowd went wild! - and I had found my calling.
I became a fan dancer on the vaudeville circuit and never looked back.
